Notes on Convention
Process: I've attended three conventions working on resolutions regarding electronic voting machines. In each case, the resolutions changed dramatically during the caucus meetings. My recommendation for future delegates: be adaptable and expect the unexpected. George Riley put forth a great lobbying effort by meeting socially with two key players on the Resolution Committee on our first night. By listening carefully he knew how to amend our proposal so it could pass.
Redistricting: LWVC and LWVMP members can apply for positions on the Redistricting Commission in the next 3 to 4 months. Public comment on the Commission’s regulations is open until July 9.
Brown Act: City managers cannot report to council members comments made to him/her, by other council members. This answered a question I have had concerning circumventing Brown Act restrictions.
