The VOTER, April 2007, Volume 79, No. 7

LWVMP President's Message

In the Voter this month you will find an analysis of the two June ballot measures: Measure A is the Community General Plan Initiative, which the League supports, and Measure C is the Community General Plan Update 4, which has been drawn up by the Board of Supervisors.

We have been talking to the editors of the local newspapers to explain our analysis and why we are supporting the Initiative. Perhaps by the time you get this you will see our analysis in the Herald and elsewhere.

Please give your thanks to the Natural Resources Committee members, who have given so much time to make our analysis as fair and objective as possible. They worked with the Salinas Valley League in this effort. We hope to get the comparison out to as many people in the county as possible. The summary analysis in the Voter has also been translated into Spanish. The longer analysis, which you can see on the web site, has not been.

Please urge all your friends and neighbors to study the analyses and then get out and vote. This election will have long lasting consequences for land use in Monterey County.

And I hope you were able to attend one of the consensus meetings on public vs. private ownership of water. Participation by a large number of members is vital in arriving at consensus. And it is only on the basis of consensus positions that we are able to speak to the many issues in front of us today.
