March Meeting:  Dr. Clara Yu

The guest speaker for the March 14 general meeting is Dr. Clara Yu, president of the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS).  Dr. Yu will talk about the importance of technology in the delivery of global education.  She is applying innovative models to graduate education and exploring new means of curricular design, delivery, and global outreach.

A pioneering innovator in the use of technology in education, Dr. Clara Yu is the 12th president of MIIS, a graduate institution offering degrees in international policy, international business, educational linguistics, and translation and interpretation.

Born in China and educated in Taiwan and the United States, Dr. Yu received a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the Univ. of Illinois in 1978, and taught at Dartmouth College and the Univ. of Maryland before starting an artificial intelligence consulting firm. Returning to academe a decade later, she joined the faculty of Middlebury College, where she focused on advanced language education incorporated into core curriculum.
