Setting the State League Priorities

Program is the League’s “reason for being,” the basis of both education and action efforts.  Program—issues chosen for study and action—is an essential element of League and, because it is so important, has traditionally originated with the local membership through the program planning process.

The annual LWV planning cycle alternates between national & local and state.  This year we will examine the LWV of California program and priorities.  Our annual Program Planning Meeting will be on Wednesday, January 24, from 12:00 noon – 2:00 P.M. at Mariposa Hall, 801 Lighthouse Avenue, Monterey.

At the meeting, the LWVMP members will review the state positions with the option to keep, drop, or update them.  We have the option to recommend new LWVC studies.  We can set priorities by ranking  three issues for statewide focus.  The results of our meeting will be forwarded to LWV California for incorporation into the state planning process.

Two state documents will assist in the planning process:  LWVC Program Planning Kit 2007-2009 and LWVC Action Policies and Positions Updated 2006.  These documents will be available in print at the January general meeting.  They are also can be sent to you if you are unable to attend the general meeting.  Contact the LWVMP office by e-mail or telephone.

The following are the areas are covered by LWV California positions and will be open for discussion.
