IN MEMORIUM
Elizabeth Ann Leeper died gracefully at home Saturday morning, November 5, 2005. She was surrounded by her family: husband Ed Leeper, daughters Kira Godbe and Dana Carnazzo, son-in-law Damion, and three of her four grandchildren.
Liz was an active member in the League of Women Voters, the Women's League for Peace and Freedom, and a charter member of the ACLU. She and husband Ed were avid anti-war demonstrators and were constantly involved in keeping an eye on the over-building of the Peninsula, greatly contributing to the preservation of our coast.
Liz was a fiercely independent woman and a great proponent of women's rights. She questioned authority and encouraged others to do the same. She valued the intellect and expected those around her to rise to the challenge of a good debate. She said, "I don't regret the things I've done, but rather the things I haven't."
Liz was a model and mentor to many of us. "Everybody called her for advice," Ed said. "She was somebody people came to, almost like an oracle."
Liz worked diligently and vocally to preserve social justice for all and Monterey's quality of life. It's impossible to document her citywide leadership, spunkiness, and bravery. Elizabeth often said, "Troublemakers have more fun." We hope that she finds trouble to make, wherever she is.
