UPCOMING ELECTION NEWS

The Monterey County District 4 Supervisor run-off election between Jane Parker and Jerry Smith will offer residents of Seaside, Marina, and south Salinas a clear choice on critical issues of budget, affordable housing, the General Plan update, water availability, and development. The results of this election will impact all LWVMP members, as county policy decisions are frequently made with a one-vote margin.

On October 14, 2004, the LWVMP and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce are cosponsoring a forum to promote improved voter participation and issue awareness. The LWVMP will moderate an issues/answer forum in which Smith and Parker will address questions from selected community representatives, the LWVMP, and the audience. The forum will be held at the Oldemeyer Center and will feature pre-forum festivities and a "meet-the-candidate" reception arranged by the Hispanic community.

LWVMP members willing to help with publicity, question sorting, event night coordination, or the planned state Senate District 15 forum may volunteer by contacting our Voters Service Director.
