JANUARY ROE VS. WADE SIGNATURE AD

This January will mark the 31st anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe vs. Wade decision, establishing the constitutional rights of a pregnant woman to choose a safe and legal abortion. Perhaps at no time in history has this decision faced a more frightening possibility of being repealed than it does now. The Legislature is chipping away at the edges, and the shift of a single vote in the Supreme Court could spell the reversal of this decision. We are proud of California for joining the few states that have incorporated this right within their own constitutions so it cannot be removed by national action.

During the first week of January the Reproductive Rights Coalition, of which the LWVMP is a member, will be mailing out its request for donations and names for their annual ad in all the local papers, supporting a woman's right to choose. The ad this year will list three threats to reproductive choice: anti-choice federal court appointees, legislation classifying the fetus as a "person," and the late term abortion procedure ban passed by Congress.

Most League members are on the mailing list, but if you do not receive a mailing, and you want your name to appear in the ad, please send your name and a contribution to the Reproductive Rights Coalition, P.O. Box 813, Monterey, CA 93942. (We must have your official signature to use your name in the ad.)
