Request for Waiver of Election for MPC Election on Redistricting
Dear Dr. Kotowski:
The County Committee on Monterey Peninsula College redistricting will receive
public comments on February 25, 2008 about whether or not to request a State
waiver of the election requirement to make a change from our current at-large
method of electing trustees. The League of Women Voters of the Monterey Peninsula
opposes a request for a waiver.
The League is an organization that has worked for more than 75 years to promote
informed citizen participation in government. The League has long recognized
that the decision-making process is one of the key factors in determining the
confidence citizens have in their government. We urge you to protect the local
voting process by holding an election on this important issue.
The League of Women Voters does not have a position on redistricting. Our interest
is in the process and our commitment to informed, meaningful citizen participation
in government. We believe very strongly that the right of voters to decide
important issues such as representation should be maintained and protected.
Sincerely,
Janet Brennan, President
LWV of the Monterey Peninsula
