SUBJECT:  Item 14 RE Advisory Measure on Public Acquisition
                      of the California American Water Distribution System

Dear Chair and Members of the Board of Directors:

The League of Women Voters of the Monterey Peninsula urges you to place an advisory measure on the ballot regarding public acquisition of the California American Water Distribution System. Ownership of the water system and future water supplies for the Monterey Peninsula is an issue of extensive public discussion and concern. An advisory vote will give voters an opportunity to provide direction to local community leaders and the MPWMD for future action. Finally, the League supports full public participation, including allowing for rebuttal arguments to be presented in the election materials.
